You mentioned resistance to compact fluorescents.

I worry about them because of the mercury content. I can't help but wonder
about the mercury load in the marine ecosystem and where all that metal has
been coming from. I also wonder about the increased incidence of autism and
developmental disorders. How much of that, if any, is due to lead exposure,
how much to mercury and arsenic, and how much to estrogenic and chlorinated
organic compounds?

Personally, I'd prefer to wait for white LEDs to get cheap.
